Thoughts on the PSP GO

I’ve been asked a few times what I think of the PSP Go. As a happy PSP owner, and as someone who has no qualms with digital distribution, I actually don’t have much interest in the Go. It’s far too expensive for what you get: a PSP with a smaller screen and no UMD drive, and a missed opportunity to implement a second analog stick and/or a touch screen. Oh there’s the 16 GB of flash memory, but I can’t fathom where that’s worth the cost of those other features, as well as the $80 premium (over a core PSP-3000). Sony already offers a variety of worthwhile PSP-3000 bundles that come with games, movies, memory sticks, download coupons, etc, for only $200. Considering the PSP-3000 can do everything the Go can do, and technically more, you’re getting much more for less money. It’s a no-brainer in my opinion.

I’ll likely pick up the PSP Go in the future, but not until a significant price drop and hopefully some worthwhile bundles. As it stands though, there’s no way I’ll buy a PSP Go.

$250 is cheap, over here in Australia thats how much a stand alone PSP 3000 is. . people with older PSP’s wanna focus more on the negatives to outweigh any sense of feeling ripped off /outdated. the idea of the go is that its alot more portable, any other PSP you need more then just a pocket to lug around your games and console and whatever else. this things small and easy. keep ya 3000 if u got a few UMD’s..but the Go’s nice. Btw, what spoiled needs more than 15 – 25 Games!!?? (16gbHD)

we are no were close to the digital era. A lot of people dont feel comfortable putting their credit card info in. Also alot of people like having the main disk. itself. also the knowing of you losing all of your data if you hardrive crashes

    be a of a lot …
be a of a lot better when you have a PS3, but by itself I would most likely rate it a 8.5, but thats without a PS3 but with a PS3 ill rate it a 9.5. Why wait, until a better system comes out to get a PSP GO cause you know that might happen, um, hello, a little thing called competition Nintendo is trying to come back after the DSi. And the PlayStation Store dont have every game out there but it has enough games to get you through until another game comes out on the PlayStation Store.

    First of all, when …
First of all, when i finish typing and replying to your comment i forget to check everything and second you do not understand English because I say screw the Computer. If the system gets messed up you can just re download all paid for games while a when a UMD get destroyed what the heck are you suppose to do but buy a new one for the same price as before. And okay you are right about the download speed but that is what the PS3 and a computer is for. I forgot to say earlier that the PSP GO would

    @liltonyton101 Your …
@liltonyton101 Your english is terrible, if you can store games on your computer, you will still need access to it and time to waste to swap the games around if you want to play a game stored on your computer. The PSP Go is a big fat ripoff with a smaller screen and the USB connector is proprietary. It takes forever to download a game even if you have fast internet, and you need broadband or better to even use it.

    know games gb are …
know games gb are like 1gb a game so you hve to wait long and you can only put 16 games on there or less

  10. liltonyton101 says:

    … you can get …
… you can get them from Rite Aid or Target or where ever. Buying games are not a problem cause u dont have to use a credit card. Only problem for right now is the lack of games on the Network which is kinda retarded Sony. PSP 1000-3000 only have memory sticks up to 4 maybe 6GB. PSP GO comes with !^GB internal memory. So say that u want to download some games from the PSN and u want IDK about 16GB, for the PSP 1000-3000 u will need four 4GB memory cards so u want to carry around 4 memory cards.

  11. liltonyton101 says:

    … memory. If u …
… memory. If u lose the system of if th system gets damage and u send it to SONY for them to fix it then once u get it back/ get another one u can re download all games, movies and in order to get pictures and music u have to have a computer and/or PS3 so u can put those right back on. So to me what i would do cause i currently have a red PSP 3000, im going to keep it AND get the GO but use the GO more. If u dont know or maybe u do but there are PlayStation Network Card for $20 and $50 …

  12. liltonyton101 says:

    Okay then screw the …
Okay then screw the fact that u should put the memory onto the computer but if the PSP go gets damage and u do no stupid crap to mess it up I believe i heard before that there a warrant on it so if u keep your account info then u can re download purchased games meanwhile with the 1000-3000 PSP, your screwed once the UMD get destroyed. Like i said before, I had a lot of UMD’s and (at least $150 worth) and now they are useless now. Now compared that to having a system with no UMD’s but all…

    @ liltonyton101: ” …
@ liltonyton101: “If you did your research” and “just think smart.” Jesus. You didn’t give a good reason why a person with UMDs and a 2000 should purchase a Go. ‘Storing memory on the computer to transfer to the Go?’ Really? Having all your games ‘destroyed’ isn’t a typical thing, therefore your argument lacks a foundation. Why would you bother putting your memory on the computer to transfer to the Go when you could just keep the memory on the 2000 and play it? You’re just condescending.

  14. liltonyton101 says:

    … back on the …
… back on the system u see so that what make that a whole lot better so just think about it. That is a Smart system and all u have to do is think smart. shoot im only 14 years old and i was able to think of all that as i wrote this comment no lie, so if all ur games (like mys a few years ago) get destroyed u will have to buy the game all over again while having a PSP go u can save ur memory to the computer and copy it back when u replace the damage PSP GO.

  15. liltonyton101 says:

    … the updates and …
… the updates and changes. so, now think when the 2000 came out did u think that $250 for the 1000 was too high. hey i just saying to think about it. truth be told that i had a whole bunch of UMD when i first got the PSP in 2004-2005 and most of them got destroyed, theirs no warrant on the games as there is on the system so ow if the game its self get destroyed and u think smart to put ur memory of games, movie, and music on the computer then when u get ur replacement u can replace the…

  16. liltonyton101 says:

    U failed to realize …
U failed to realize all the features on the PSP GO. It has 16g memory which u stated by u can get 2g and/or more. Then u can pause the game just by clicking the PS button. I mean Personally i felt the same way as u before. But if u do ur research like me u will seem to understand what the company is doing but i do agree also about the price, $250 + tax is really off the charts high but then think back til 2004 when the PSP 1000 came out. Also was $250 + tax and was until today with …
